I don't understand what they mean by "the best pieces are the ones that are left over." Best in what sense? Perhaps what they mean is that the most complicated (i.e., deep) works are not instantly appreciated. That makes some sense; however, I don't find that to be true very often in the visual arts, unlike in music, where that is almost always the case for me.

Eric - Great tips from someone who knows the value of putting your money where your mouth is. Thanks for keeping us well-informed!

Jared - you bring up a good point that sometimes the most complicated are 'left over' and not necessarily lesser works. However, as a gallerist I can say that Eric has a point. Certainly this is not always the case but it's something to "keep in mind" and be aware of as a collector.

To my mind there are two ways to approach number 7. A) Never get rushed into buying anything. Or B) Don't fret over missed pieces.
