Weekend Recap: B Complex - Who Knew ATL Could Be So Cool?
With few exceptions (yes Anna you're one of them) the best art shown in Atlanta is south of Ponce de Leon Avenue. The cooler-than-cool B Complex a ways down Murphy Avenue was the locale for the freshest, hippest art event to hit the ATL in quite a while. The group show was comprised of works from 45 artists and contained several strong pieces including this tour-de-force by Susan Krause:

In her statement, the work is a commentary on man's current infatuation with altering our physical appearance. I left feeling that this is where The Silence of the Lambs' Buffalo Bill might have eventually gotten to if Clarise Starling hadn't caught him. You need to make time to see this work. It's the best thing I've seen in Atlanta in a long time.
I met two photographers there who I was told were both very good: Amanda Palmer (at left) and Ilia Varcev. I also ran into Ben Apfelbaum, Robert Sherer and Marianne Lambert. Here are some more pix of the event:

Phillips has posted the on-line catalog for its spring photo auctions. Now that's a photography sale! YUM! A prediction that you'll see here first: Vik Muniz will be joining the $100,000 club when his Action Photo III sells for six figures (including buyer's premium). There are also a number of very nice pictures by Candida Hofer for sale (here here here and here), but don't believe the estimates; they'll all sell for over $10K.
